In a linguistic model, we suggest that organizations are born out of a declaration of intent. A statement of a possibility that is wanting to happen. It is the conversations that are built around this initial declaration that allows for the organization to continue to fulfill its intention.
Over time the organization takes on its own personality. Much the same way an individual develops. Conversations have impact on the organizations personality and its ability to continue to produce results. Work groups change, ideas come and go, and opportunities are seized or missed, all as a result of the organizations ability to communicate and listen to the impact these conversations are having.
When this "Organizational Listening" is present there is a quality of flexibility, aliveness and excitement for what lies ahead. This listening reveals possible breakdowns long before they happen and point out unforeseen opportunities well ahead of their time. Organizational Listing empowers the organization to work smarter not harder. Individuals can design new conversations and relationships that increase the velocity of achieving the intentions of the organization. It is this awareness that is developed through our work.
