Speaking of the Future, it is here now ...
This course is an excellent tool for:
The fundamental assertion of this course is that limitless possibilities present themselves when a person speaks. Each word evokes a future which is either realized or not. The intention behind the words determines the future that will take place. The awareness of this phenomena and commitment to one's intention bring desired futures into the present. Many people cannot respond to the question, "How do you create the future?" Either they honestly don't know, or they deny they could have any part in it, leaving most futures to happenstance. When we speak of the "Future", we suggest that it is a linguistic phenomena that only exists when one is willing to be responsible for its existence. It appears in the "Intentional Domain" of language, the domain where Committed Speaking and Listening are practiced. This course offers the technology of: The Art of Committed Speaking, translating intentions into coordinated action and desired results. Committed Speaking is different from everyday "chatter" that has no expressed intended outcome, just a lot of vague hope that something positive will result.
Speech Acts, Requests, Promises, and Declarations are the primary acts that bring forth the Future now. These Speech Acts are the building blocks for inventing and carrying out Committed Conversations. Once one has mastered the use of these speech acts, clarity, trust and commitment drive projects to successful outcomes.
During exercises participants discover the source of their idle chatter and the impact is has on their effectiveness. They are then coached in the fundamental processes needed to conduct Committed Conversation. Making requests and managing promises, listening for mutual understanding of the intended results are all part of the process. Competence in this domain is the intent of this course.
This course can stand alone as a Two day workshop or working in conjunction with the "Living In Language Course" as a Three day course.
