Joel began his career in the 1970's, training retail staff for Cole National, a nationwide retail chain of gift stores. Targeting three basic linguist elements of team building, management, and interpersonal cooperation, extraordinary results were attained system wide. Since that time his consulting has included start-ups and long-term management of viable, successful small businesses, franchises and international organizations. His diverse background includes being a small business owner, seminar leader, ultra runner, national rowing champion, Vietnam veteran, and ongoing community volunteer. He was named "Franchisee of the Year" by Supercuts Corporation. His retail locations continue to receive awards for all aspects of store operations. He has also been acknowledged for turning failing franchises around by coaching personnel and management to their full expression excellence.
He has worked with numerous leading edge consulting firms including Turning Points Inc., Left on Elm Street, and recently BizFutures, consultants to PIKE PLACE FISH. There he was a senior consultant training organizations in the underlying principles behind the Fish Philosophy. He has extensive experience leading corporate training's; consulting on problem solving, team intervention, and coaching individuals and management to increased productivity. He continues his inquiry into "the power of language", "the technology of speaking" and their relationship to personal and business leadership.
"When given the opportunity, people's excellence shows up naturally. Work becomes an expression of one's self. In each moment, one can choose to create, empower others, and celebrate the world." - JBK
